Frequently asked questions

What does the ADIT Principles of International Tax module cover?

Module 1 is the core ADIT module and covers the full breadth of international taxation. The main topic areas are:
  • Basic principles of international taxation (20%)
  • Double taxation conventions, focusing on the OECD Model Tax Convention and the UN Model Double Taxation Convention (30%)
  • BEPS 2.0, including Pillar One and Pillar Two; transfer pricing and restrictions on interest deductibility (20%)
  • International tax avoidance, including BEPS Actions (25%)
  • Miscellaneous topics including indirect taxes and emerging technologies (5%).

How is the course structured?

You attend ten weekly online tuition classes of 2.5 hours each, running on Tuesday evenings from 4pm to 6.30pm UK time. We encourage you to attend live to join in discussions and ask questions, but recordings are available to catch up if you miss a class or want to revisit a topic.

Classes are followed by weekly assignments to build your knowledge and exam technique. Towards the end of the course, weekend revision classes consolidate your understanding, with pre- and post-revision mock exams providing individual feedback before the sitting.

What study materials are included?

All packages include an online subscription to the Bloomsbury International Tax Service, giving you access to Principles of International Taxation by Lynne Oats and wider reference material. But for this module, study materials are secondary to tuition.

The Principles of International Tax exam is rooted in source materials — the OECD Model Tax Convention, BEPS reports, UN documents — and our course focuses on helping you understand and apply those directly, supported by high quality lecture slides available to all students. You build your knowledge week by week through live classes, weekly assignments and tutor feedback. The Extra package additionally includes a hard copy of the Bloomsbury text delivered to you.

How long do I have access to course materials?

This depends on the package you choose. For the December 2026 exam:
  • Core gives you access until 31 December 2026.
  • Select extends this to 30 June 2027.
  • Extra gives you access until 31 December 2027.

Do I need to take study leave?

No, study leave is not essential. The course is designed to fit around your working life. Weekly tuition classes and weekend revision sessions mean you can study without disrupting your working week. Class recordings allow you to catch up or revisit topics at a time that suits you.

Sponsoring your team through ADIT

Many ADIT candidates are supported by their employers, and ExtraTax Training works with tax teams at professional services firms, law firms and in-house tax functions to arrange group enrolments and invoiced payment.

If you are a tax team leader or learning and development manager considering ADIT for your team, we are happy to talk you through module options, study timelines, and how ADIT fits into a wider development programme. Employer bookings can be arranged by invoice, with VAT zero-rated for non-UK business customers.
